Sometimes we just have a couple of hours to enjoy the city, either on the car trip, while waiting for the plane or simply staying after a cultural event. It is obvious, that it’s definitely better to go for some active sightseeing, or simple walk, instead of spending this time somewhere at the station or shop. Especially with a city of such elegance and historical beauty as the old capital of Poland – Krakow.

Main square

The first, and easiest to reach place is Main Market, located very close to the main station. It is the very heart of nightlife in Krakow. You can visit a lots of different pubs and clubs here, ranging from modern styled to ones serving beverages in cheaper way. You can also find many thematically enriched places around, including pubs dedicated to a fantasy universes like Harry Potter (“Dziurawy Kocioł”) or Call of Cthulu (“R’lyeh”). With everything relatively close, you can even do some small pub crawling or simply go from place to place and plan your next stay in Krakow. Additionally, by day, you can visit some of the oldest buildings, including St. Mary’s Basilica and city hall. There is also a fantastic museum located underneath the plate of a main market, where you can observe the evolution of the city and its growth up until this day. It is an experience like no other, walking through the ruins of old market, just below a hundreds of tourists and citizens living there now.

Kazimierz

If you have some more time for a longer walk, you can grab some delicious coffee or sweets and go across the city center to the old Jewish district, called Kazimierz. Its tight, narrow streets will remind you of older times in Poland, more accurately referring to the past of the country. It is somewhat similar to European traditional cities, but with unique, homely feeling of Poland, which you will not easily forget. By night is also a place commonly visited by students as it’s filled up with a bit cheaper restaurants and pubs. Here you can also taste a bit different cuisine that in any part of the city. To fully experience that, you can for example make your way to a Miodova restaurant, fully immersing its customers in the taste of Krakow cuisine, namely this district. Also, there are plenty of cafes located at the market of this district. There are also plenty of different churches here, making the unique blend of cultures visible for everyone to witness.

Outskirts

When travelling on your own, you have a lot of freedom to do what you want, or go where you want, especially when coming by car. During long euro trips with your friends, you will need some nice attractions to make it more interesting and crazy. Krakow is a great city, when it comes to such activities. With a lot of green areas, you can find some racing tracks or shooting ranges here. If you are staying in the center, you can also bump in throwing axe club, such as Bad Axe, which is one of the most interesting choices for some free time. You can have a great evening here, on your own track, just with your friends, doing photoshoots of you dressed up like Vikings and having a blast with axes and beer. It is also located near CK Browar, which is a great place to have a good dinner, with lots of Polish and Austrian cuisine, so we highly recommend that you will try that activity, during your visit in Krakow.

Krakow is one of two biggest cities in Poland when in terms of young people and students. Over 20% of people here are students of the major universities, coming from the many parts of the country and abroad. The biggest dormitory complex – MS AGH is going crazy, when whether is starting to get warmer during a spring, with a peak during May. During night, it is difficult to pass it, with hundreds of people drinking, singing and otherwise having fun. The party almost never ends there.

What is the reasoning, behind them choosing the City of Kings? It is a rich nightlife in Krakow. Both Main Market and Kazimierz are the oldest and most beautiful districts in the city, while at the same time, biggest clubs and pub are all located around there. You can only imagine of the greatest pub crawlings in your life, similar to biggest party cities in the Europe, like Turin or London, where you can go from place to place and enjoy friendly atmosphere, great local beverages and meet people.

And if you are here for the first time, maybe just visiting, or considering studying in this city, you should definitely visit some of those places to make your own opinion. Here, we list some of them, with a little bonus at the end.

Shine

One of the most recognizable and biggest clubs in Krakow is definitely Shine. This place is as epic as it gets, and is a place that makes people eager to try it as soon as they begin their studies in Krakow. This modern club has all that is needed to throw the best parties in the city. Three independent parts, top acoustics, LED lightning coming from over three thousand points and places for dancers. Polish and foreign DJs love to work here as it looks like a proper concert hall from the future. Club is also a place where you can throw a closed party, but unsurprisingly it is not a cheap idea.

Frantic

Frantic is one of those clubs located in the Szewska street, famous for a lot of clubs are crowded whenever there is a warm night or weekend. While Shine is almost overwhelming, Frantic does it all with style with no less of a pompous parties. Venue might not be that impressive on the first glance, but it gets better with time. There are plenty of lodges there as well as the best artist will choose this club when coming to Krakow.

Studio

The best students club had to make it to the list. It may not look that impressive from the outside, but it was recently renovated to improve acoustics and venue to a whole new level. Many great artists are performing here, including worldwide known bands such as Sunrise Avenue. There are many student oriented events here as well as traditional parties. It is worth visiting because of large space and homely feeling within a new, functional club.

For those who “don’t want to meet their daughter in the club” there is a 30 club. There you can enjoy the same classy and crazy party, with the age restriction added into it. What’s interesting and definitely worth mentioning is that restriction means that people who are above 25 years old will be able to attend, which is misleading, given the name of this club. Despite this, club has a good opinion, you can easily reserve yourself a place there and enjoy one of the best places in Krakow in terms of both style and music. It is located near the Cracovia stadium, west of the old town, but quite close to it.

Indians did it as a part of war, now celebrities do it as an active way of spending free time. What is so immersive in throwing axes that it made its way to the top of most picked extraordinary activities for stag nights and other evenings with friends?

The first would probably the way it feels – fun and simple. When comparing throwing axes to shooting or driving a car, we can easily observe that it is much more opened for a casual people, which are probably at least a part of your buddies. You don’t have to possess any experience or skills. There are no complicated techniques to learn, hours of passive and active training to maintain. Literally a few minutes of teaching can make you a pro in axe throwing. At the same time, you can compete with friends, as there is some place to master this ability. Of course with more strength there is more distance, so in case you will be immersed, you will find a way to improve and make satisfying progress. Does it stand for ideal hobby then?

Hard to say at this moment, as it is relatively new. Many clubs are being recently opened in the Europe and in United States of America, where this entertainment was brought back to life. People are making dozens of videos to show their way and achievements. It is spreading nicely, but only time will tell if it is something worth spending years on. So far, we can however enjoy it, while it lasts for a stag nights, company parties and so on.

And it works great here. It is one of the best new ways to handle stress, comparable to a whole session of shooting on the shooting range, yet much more cheaper. It does not require expansive weaponry, just a solid axes. It will not burn ammo or destroy targets so easily as a weapon would. It is finally much safer that guns. Accidents do happen everywhere, but obviously there is much less possibility of death during even crazy axe throwing than at a relatively calm shooting session. That may be somewhat sad for gun enthusiasts, but it is true.

A typical session is simple. For up to three or four hours, you and your friends are on the separated track. There they start with simple tutorial from the instructor, so they will be properly holding and throwing their axes through the course of the whole event. Then all it takes is to enjoy competition and optionally some food or drinks, depending solely on the club you are in.

If you are happening to wonder what to do in your free time in Krakow, there is such place here around the Old Town. Bad Axe club is located on Basztowa 10 and its both cheap and easy to find. You can park your car up on the north of it, or reach it with public transportation by both bus or tram. It is also easy to walk there from such popular points as Bagatela Theater or main train station. You should have a straight walk from the main square as well. Just don’t forget to bring your own beer with you. It is such a type of a club and it is strongly advised by the owners themselves to do so. It makes a mood a little more better and helps kickstarting the whole party. It is also worth doing some photos or video relation. After, nowadays many people are interested in it, so maybe you will make a good example for them and they will be next to try. It is definitely a fashion worth checking out.
